“The fire is contained and there are no serious injuries.” The first words of Françoise Souliman, prefect of Eure-et-Loir are reassuring, this Sunday, May 2, 2021, around 10:20 p.m. Chartres (Eure-et-Loir).
Here is the latest information communicated by the prefect, the departmental director of the fire and rescue services of Eure-et-Loir, Colonel Jean-François Gouy, and Dominique Dutartre, deputy mayor of Chartres.
◙ About 50 firefighters mobilized
The fire found its home in an apartment located above Marlène’s bakery, around 8 p.m., just in front of the future administrative center of Chartres, in the city center.
The firefighters’ intervention initially required blocking the fire with aerial ladders. The risk was spread to the whole block, we are in an old neighborhood, there is no real separation between the roofs, you have to be careful.
◙ Securing and clearing
A 22 h 20, the fire was under control. The fire mobilized around fifty firefighters, in particular barracks of Chartres, Lucé and Illiers-Combray. Dominique Dutartre, deputy mayor, welcomes “the responsiveness and commitment” of the firefighters.
“We must now ensure clearing and surveillance to prevent a resumption of fire,” says the director of SDIS 28.
◙ One person inconvenienced by the fumes
Particular attention will be paid to the businesses adjacent to the building.
No serious injuries. A single person was slightly intoxicated by the smoke, notes the prefect of Eure-et-Loir. “She was taken to hospital as a precaution.”
◙ Marlène bakery closed “until further notice”
Pierre Le Bagousse, president of the employers’ chamber of the bakery of Eure-et-Loir was also at the scene of the fire. “We have contacted the treasurer of the regional employers’ chamber,” he says.
For her part, Marlène Boehm, spoke via the Facebook page of his business.

We still do not know, at this time, the causes of the fire. “A judicial police officer is on site,” said the prefect of Eure-et-Loir.
