During the last edition in October 2021, 3,845 pairs of glasses were collected. Will the Lions Club of Chartres Jean Moulin do better this year?
The Chartrains are once again associated with the world eyeglass collection day. The goal is to recover unused eyeglasses and cases.
A few years ago Opinion Way estimated the number of unused glasses in France at 100 million. What indeed to provide to the poor populations.
“The Lions Club has partnered with local opticians to organize various collection points,” explains Brigitte Neirizi, member of the local Lions Club chaired by Nathalie Boulay.
Once gathered, François Debain, of Pierre Leman Opticiens, with his network of carriers, will transport the entire collection to Le Havre.
Restoration and redistribution
They will be restored by Medico, a branch of the national Lions Club, which will restore or recycle the glasses according to their characteristics (myopia, presbyopia, etc.). Then, cases and glasses will go to Africa and Asia to populations in difficulty. “The people who will have access to this equipment cannot afford to finance it on their own”, adds Brigitte Neiziri.
This collection aims to solicit the generosity of all. It is organized on the initiative of the Lions Club International in which the Chartrain club has participated since its creation and organizes a collection twice a year (in April and October). The glasses will be dropped off on Friday April 15, at 11 a.m., rue du Grand Faubourg.
Several collection points are available around Chartres: Pierre Leman Opticians, Optic 2000, Alain Afflelou Chartres, Optique et Hearing Géant, Atol in the Carrefour gallery, or among others Optique Saint-Georges in Saint-Georges-sur-Eure.
