A consecration for the Corsican prodigy of the chess club of Chartres (Eure-et-Loir). Marc’Andria Maurizzi, 14 years and 5 days old, broke the record of the youngest French grand master in history. He has been fired since September 2020 at C’Chartres Chess.
This week, the Chartres chess club organized the International Grandmaster tournament “Coups de Théâtre”. This Friday morning, Marc’Andria Maurizzi achieved his third standard, and became the youngest French grand master in history.
“A lot of pressure” on the shoulders of the young prodigy
This record was held, until today by Etienne Barcot, who had won it at 14 years and 2 months.
It is a title that Marc’Andria will keep for life. This proves that he is very talented and that he continues to improve at Chartres, he had been under a lot of pressure for some time.
Next step for Marc’Andria Maurizzi: the Top 12 at Chalons Champagne (Marne), end of June. “We can hope that he will one day appear in the Top 10 of the best players in the world”, proudly reacts the sports director of the Chess club in Chartres.
The youngest French grandmaster in history will celebrate his title tomorrow, with the C’Chartres Chess, before leaving for Bastia (Corsica), where he resides.
