Jessie Diggins, the American who leads the overall World Cup standings, is also ahead as is Norway’s Kristine Stavås Skistad, who took her second win of the season when she won Saturday’s sprint in Canmore.

At the last classic sprint, in Oberhof, Svahn, Karlsson and Sundling offered a Swedish triple on the podium.

Norwegian Johannes Høsflot Klæbo won the men’s qualifier ahead of compatriot Erik Valnes.

Marcus Grate was the fastest of the Swedish riders with the seventh best time. Calle Halfvarsson (10th), Johan Häggström (12th) and Edvin Anger (22nd) get to charge for the quarter-finals.
