Nearly ten years ago, Charlotte Gainsbourg made the decision to leave Paris to settle in New York, after the brutal death of her half-sister Kate Barry (the latter had fallen from the balcony of the new apartment she occupied in the 16th arrondissement of Paris). The actress blamed herself for having “abandoned” her mother Jane Birkin who recently left us. “I lived with great guilt within me for having gone there when we had just lost my sister, and therefore her daughter.”, she confided to our colleagues at Marie-Claire last March.
She has since returned to live in France where she reunited with her long-time companion Yvan Attal, with whom she will perhaps marry. But this Tuesday, she was back in the Big Apple with her daughters Alice and Jo, for the All Saints’ Day holidays. She shared a beautiful black and white photo of the two sisters on her Instagram account. The eldest is carrying a bag which suggests that they may have all enjoyed a shopping trip together. The boys of the family, namely Ben and Yvan, seemed absent.
I miss her so much
Note that they had to fly to the United States only in the last few hours, since Charlotte Gainsbourg was still in France last Saturday. She participated in the screening of her documentary in Lyon Jane by Charlotte, in which she opens up about the relationship she had with her famous mother. A work which was nominated for the 2023 Césars, in the best documentary film category. In fact, the whole family attended the ceremony. It was also selected at the 2021 Cannes Film Festival
