Actress and singer Charlotte Gainsbourg will chair the 47th edition of the American film festival in Deauville (Calvados) which will take place from September 3 to 12, organizers announced on Tuesday.
“To lead all eyes in this exceptional year to many titles, it was necessary this actress of international stature, now director”, who lived several years in New York, they commented in a statement.
Born in London on July 22, 1971, the daughter of British singer Jane Birkin and French composer Serge Gainsbourg started her career at the age of 13, before winning two Césars: best female hope for “L’Effrontée” by Claude Miller in 1986 and best actress in a supporting role for “La Bûche” in 2000.
The artist, who embodies “daring” according to the organizers of Deauville, was also crowned at the Cannes Film Festival with the Best Actress Prize for “Antichrist” by Lars von Trier in 2009, before being named female artist of the year at the Victoires de la Musique in 2018.
Charlotte Gainsbourg has performed five albums and also played for Franco Zeffirelli, Alejandro González Iñárritu, Olivier Nakache and Éric Toledano, Wim Wenders, Arnaud Desplechin, Eric Rochant, Riad Sattouf or Gaspar Noé.
In February, she told AFP to work on her next album as well as the opening to the public “before the end of the year if possible” of the mansion of her father, who died 30 years ago. , in Paris.
The festival has not yet unveiled its program.
The 46th edition was chaired by Vanessa Paradis. His jury had crowned “The Nest” by Sean Durkin, an oppressive thriller starring Jude Law. Fifteen films were in competition.
Nearly 38,000 spectators had participated according to the organizers, despite gauges restricted by the Covid. The festival had around 60,000 spectators in previous years.
