Charlie Morton wishes the Rays success

Last November, the Tampa Bay Rays decided to turn down Charlie Morton’s $ 15 million option. Result? He landed in Atlanta for the same amount of money.

Even though his time in Tampa Bay didn’t end the way he would have envisioned, Morton is still a fan of the Rays and wishes them every success (except when playing against the Braves).

Yesterday, the pitcher faced his former teammates precisely and in a strike against Ryan Yarbrough, Morton did everything to get his attention.

I was trying to get his attention because he had finished the round and expected him to say something, but he just smiled at me. So I just greeted him.

Morton later said he didn’t blame the Rays for turning down his option year. He is aware that it is financially difficult for the team. He added that he has a lot of respect for franchise general manager Erik Neander, who has done it very well under the circumstances.

He was completely honest with me. That’s all you can ask for.

So even though he’s no longer in Florida, Morton wants the organization, in which he spent two seasons, to be successful. The experiences and relationships he lived during his two seasons will remain etched in his memory for a long time to come.

The importance I place on these guys will never change, and the fact that I encourage them will not change.

Not sure he would say the same if the World Series final pitted the Braves against the Rays.

  • Corey Kluber can’t wait to start the season.
  • The Mets release Mike Montgomery.
  • Dave Roberts is making changes to his lineup for the opener.

  • The Angels sign Noe Ramirez and send Ty Buttrey to the minors.
