Charlie Hebdo magazine displays obscene cartoon Erdogan, angry Turkey

Istanbul

The Turkish government was furious and accused the French satire weekly magazine, Charlie Hebdo committing “cultural racism”. The magazine was criticized for producing a front-page cartoon for its latest issue that mocked the President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

As reported AFP, Wednesday (28/10/2020) Erdogan’s Assistant Press was made.

“We condemn the most disgusting efforts of this publication to spread racism and cultural hatred,” Erdogan’s assistant press, Fahrettin Altun, said on Twitter, Tuesday (27/10/2020).

“French President Macron’s anti-Muslim agenda is paying off! Charlie Hebdo has just published a series of so-called cartoons filled with despicable images of what is said to be our President,” he continued.

Wednesday’s edition of Charlie Hebdo’s front page caricature, released online Tuesday evening, shows Erdogan in a T-shirt and underwear, drinking a can of beer and lifting the clothes of a woman wearing a head scarf to expose her buttocks.

“Ooh, prophet!” the character says in a dialogue balloon, while the caption says “Erdogan: personally, he’s very funny”.

This cartoon is on display by Charlie Hebdo at a time of escalating war of words between Erdogan, Macron and other European leaders following the beheading of French school teacher Samuel Paty. Charlie Hebdo is a magazine that previously published cartoons insulting the Prophet Muhammad, which sparked attacks and massacres at its editorial offices in 2015.
