“Happy Easter Your Majesty, keep going strong and never give up.” With these words a citizen greeted King Charles after Easter Sunday service at Windsor.
This was the 75-year-old monarch’s first public appearance since announcing he was suffering from cancer.
Charles, smiling, cheerful and self-assured, walked past the gathered crowd at St George’s Chapel and shook hands with dozens of people. Many asked him “how are you?” others expressed their joy at the appearance of the king.
This performance may have boosted the morale of the audience, but this annual event was very different from other years.
While Charles attended today’s service, his son William and his family did not.
It is noted that Kate Middleton and Prince William have announced that they will not attend this year’s Easter Sunday service, and the Princess of Wales has been diagnosed with cancer.
Charles has maintained some of his public duties such as receiving foreign dignitaries or regular meetings with Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.
Last week, King Charles did not attend the Maundy Thursday service, but shared a recorded message during the service in which he expressed his regret at not being able to attend and wished citizens a happy Easter.
