Charles Martinet Steps Away from Voice of Mario: Nintendo Characters Getting New Voices

Yesterday we reported that Mario has lost his voice. Charles Martinet has officially been removed as the voice actor for Mario (a role he’s held since before Mario started talking on the Nintendo 64), and the upcoming Super Mario Bros. Wonder will be the first game in which he is not involved.

But Mario wasn’t the only Mushroom Kingdom character Martinet voiced, he also did Luigi, Waluigi and Wario – to name a few. Has he been removed from these figures as well? The answer seems to be yes, as he is not involved in the upcoming WarioWare:Move It. Here’s what Nintendo had to say about this:

“While Charles is not involved with Super Mario Bros. Wonder or WarioWare: Move It!, we are excited to honor his legacy and contributions, including looking ahead to what he will do as a Mario ambassador. For the upcoming HD- the release of Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon, which is a re-release, Charles’ voice will appear in the game.”

It’s a comfort that we get to hear Luigi sound like he should in Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon, but it will probably be the last time the characters have their original voices, and it’s old recordings rather than new.

What do you think of familiar Nintendo characters getting new voices?

Thanks, Nintendo World Report.
