The Secretary General of the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD), Charles Mariottiwarned that the great danger in political matters in our country is that the PRM repeats in the elections of 2028.
This is how Mariotti responded to the statements of the president of the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM), Jose Ignacio Palizaon the need for a Constitutional Reform to avoid situations like those in Venezuela.
“The danger is to damage the political party system, the real danger is that the PRM repeats in 2028,” Mariotti said in response to Paliza
This Saturday, as part of his itinerant tour of various municipal districts in the province of San Cristóbal, the general secretary of the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) stated that “if the PRM government has done anything, it is to democratize poverty,” in reference to the negative impact of public policies implemented by the current government headed by Luis Abinader.
Economic crisis and rising cost of living
Mariotti stressed the salary situation of Dominicans, describing the difficulty that workers face in acquiring basic family products due to the constant increase in prices.
He also referred to the problems affecting the poultry sector, with a crisis in chicken production that has increased its cost.
He compared the price and production of rice during the PLD administration with that of the current government, pointing out that the increase in costs is a reflection of the PRM’s lack of capacity to address the country’s main problems.
“Public investment has been reduced like never before,” said Mariotti, focusing on another topic and reiterating his qualification of the government as “incapable” of facing the economic and social challenges that afflict the population.
Mariotti urged the leaders and members of the PLD to mobilize and work with the productive and social sectors, while defending the legacy of the governments of Danilo Medina and the PLD: “We have to return to power, but to do so we must assume our responsibility seriously,” he emphasized.
He said that the PLD remains the only party that genuinely represents the interests of the Dominican people, which is why, he said, the current government uses justice as a weapon.
“If we manage to strengthen the work from the municipal districts, we will be invincible in 2028,” said Mariotti.
Tax reform and indebtedness
In his speeches at the places he visited, Mariotti also criticized the PRM’s tax reform, warning that the government is seeking to impose a tax reform that will harm the working class. “They want to give us the enema of tax reform,” he said, pointing out that the government spends more than it earns, which has led to an unsustainable increase in public debt.
Tour of San Cristobal
Mariotti’s tour included visits to Cambita, El Pueblecito, Medina, La Cuchilla and El Puerto. During his journey he was accompanied by local leaders, Tommy Galán, member of the Political Committee; Julio César Díaz, provincial president of San Cristóbal; and Saulo Vega, deputy of the province, as well as other members of the party.
These tours are part of their efforts to support the X Ordinary Congress Reinaldo Pared Pérez, whose objective is to strengthen the PLD as a solid opposition and with a constructive vision for the future of the nation and highlighting the role that the municipal district directorates should play.
Charles Mariotti closed his speech by calling on PLD militants to become a “constructive force” within the party, reaffirming that the PLD must continue to be the main option for Dominicans in the upcoming elections.
