A follower of US cult leader Charles Manson is entitled to parole. That has been decided by a court in California.
Leslie Van Houten, 73, has been imprisoned since 1971 for her involvement in the 1969 murder of actress Sharon Tate and six others. her crime, writes Los Angeles Times.
Despite the positive verdict of the Commission of Inquiry, Democratic Governor of California Gavin Newsom rejected Van Houten’s parole. He did so on the basis of “inconsistencies between her recent statements and the statements she made during the summer 1969 murders”.
That rejection has now been overturned by the court. Newsom can again veto her release. It’s unclear if he will.
