Charles Leclerc had a hugely disappointing race weekend in Brazil. The Monegasque had qualified second at the Interlagos circuit, but he crashed on the warm-up lap. He seemed to be able to go further for a moment, but according to his team boss Frédéric Vasseur that was an impossible task.
Leclerc slid into the wall out of nowhere during the warm-up lap. The Monegasque announced on the on-board radio that it was due to hydraulic problems, but afterwards it turned out that the control systems in his car had failed. He was able to get his car out of the tire pile, but he could only drive to a run-off zone. When there was a red flag afterwards, he could no longer return to the track.
Ferrari team boss Frédéric Vasseur admits afterwards that it was impossible to return. The Frenchman explains to RaceFans that the damage was simply too extensive to continue: “The system suddenly turned off the hydraulics and the engine. We don’t know yet what the reason for this was, because the car has not yet been returned. It was In any case, much more than an electrical problem. He was able to drive another thirty meters because of the problem and then it was the same thing again. So he had better just stop.”
