Charles Leclerc and Ferrari Unveil Positive Outlook for SF-24 in Upcoming Formula 1 Season

Charles Leclerc is very positive about Ferrari’s car for the coming Formula 1 season. The Monegasque driver expects that he and the team can achieve more with the SF-24.

“I think the car is a step forward in several areas. Based on the impression I got in the simulator, I think we are where we want to be,” Leclerc said on Tuesday at the presentation of the SF-24 at the Pista di Fiorano, Ferrari’s private circuit. “The new car looks great.”

Leclerc of course kept his guard up, because the test days for the new season are only next week in Bahrain. The car has changed considerably compared to its not so successful predecessor.

In the SF-23, Leclerc finished fifth in the battle for the world title, a huge gap to number one Max Verstappen of Red Bull. Carlos Sainz, Ferrari’s second driver, finished seventh.

“The goal this season is to be at the front and make the Ferrari fans cheer,” Leclerc continued. “But it remains to be seen how the tests on the circuit in Bahrain will turn out.”

‘I can’t wait to drive it’

Team boss Frédéric Vasseur expects the new car to be easier to drive. “We need to collect more points,” he said. “We have to be more efficient. That was certainly our biggest problem last year.”

Sainz is also positive. “In terms of shape and design, this car is very different and that appeals to me. I can’t wait to drive it,” said the Spaniard, who is starting his final season at Ferrari.

Seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes will take over Sainz’s seat next year. Leclerc recently extended his contract for several years.

The first Grand Prix of the season is on Saturday March 2 in Bahrain. Reigning champion Verstappen’s new Red Bull will be unveiled on Thursday.
