Charles in key move for William and Kate – 2024-04-24 11:14:08

Princess Kate has received a prestigious new award from King Charles III as she continues her preventative chemotherapy following her cancer diagnosis.

The monarch also gave new honors to Prince William and Queen Camilla in an announcement made on the day his grandson, Prince Louis, turned 6.

Kate joins award winners such as Winston Churchill, David Attenborough, Stephen Hawking and Anna Wintour in the Companions of Honor as its first ever royal companion.

A statement from Kensington Palace read: “His Majesty The King is pleased to appoint Her Royal Highness The Princess of Wales as a Royal Companion of the Order of the Companions of Honour. This is a new appointment.”

The Companions of Honor was founded by King George V in 1917 to recognize outstanding achievements in the arts, sciences, medicine and public service. The appointments are effective from 23 April 2024.”

Prince William was appointed Grand Master of the Order of the Bath, and Queen Camilla became Grand Master and First or Chief Lady of the Grand Cross of the Order of the British Empire.

Honors awarded in Britain each year are chosen by the government of the day through a pre-determined list of honors for the new year and birthday. However, a select few fall under the authority of the king himself, and it is these specific honors that have been given to William, Kate and Camilla, writes “Epicenter”.

The new honors could be a welcome boost for three members of the royal family, who have been feeling the strain in one form or another during what have been an unprecedented few months of concern over the royal family’s health.
