Charles Geschke, inventor of the PDF format for forwarding documents over the Internet, has passed away

Geschke met John Warnock at Xerox and together in 1982 they founded the company Adobe, where Geschke’s father also worked as a graphic artist for a while. Adobe has now grown into a multibillion-dollar company specialized in technology for digitally distributing graphics, photos, videos and multimedia. You may have already used Adobe PhotoShop and Acrobat Reader. However, Geschke is best known as a team leader in the development of Portable Document Format or PDF, the worldwide standard for the distribution of electronic documents.

Gesche and Warnock received numerous awards. In 2009 they were awarded the National Medal of Technology from President Barack Obama.
