Charles and Camilla Wedding Cake Not Popular at Auction | Royal family

A piece of wedding cake from the wedding of King Charles of England and Queen consort Camilla was not sold at auction. The cake was expected to be worth between £400 and £600 (about €460 to €690), but fell short of reserve price on Wednesday. Auctioneer David Broom said so BBC news.

The piece of cake was baked 17 years ago by a Lincolnshire baker and now comes in a keepsake tin with the royal monogram.

Broom said the sales may have failed due to producing a large amount of cake. This would make cooking less attractive to potential buyers. At the time, twenty bottles of cognac and more than a thousand eggs entered the cake.

According to Broom, the cake is still edible due to the large amount of alcohol. But a shopper would never eat it, he thinks. “The piece is clearly intended for a collection or as an investment.”

Another piece of cake has found a new owner earlier: a piece of cake from the wedding of Prince William and his wife Catherine in 2011 cost £390 (about 450 euros).
