Buckingham Palace unveiled the Royal Christmas card on Sunday, which features a photo of the new royal couple for the first time. The photo of King Charles and his wife Camilla was taken in Scotland in early September, just days before Queen Elizabeth’s death.
This is the official card that is sent to Buckingham Palace relatives. In the photo, Charles and his wife are sitting next to each other, smiling. The photo was taken by award-winning photographer Sam Hussein. The royal couple keep it in their cards with a simple message: “We wish you a very merry Christmas and New Year.”
The photo was taken during the Braemar Games, the most popular annual edition of the Highland Games. Charles’ mother, Queen Elizabeth, was not there last year: she was absent for health reasons. The Queen died on 8 September, making her the UK’s longest-serving monarch ever.
The question is whether the card will reach the recipients in time. Two days ago it became clear that national postal company Royal Mail will go on strike over the public holiday.
Some 115,000 workers have stopped work for the weekend, demanding higher wages. Last week, Royal Mail warned Britons to send its annual Christmas mail earlier than usual.
