Charleroi and Cercle Brugge were both able to do a good job tonight in the middle of the standings.
It was the visitors who came out best in the first half. With a lot of drive and commitment, the team from Bruges moved forward. Charleroi could do little to nothing against this and played weak and sloppy.
A deserved lead came for the visitors after Vanhoutte saw a ball hit the goal via Marcq’s leg.
Charleroi was able to equalize just before half-time after poor defense. Mbenza was the finisher on duty.
Mazzu had clearly spoken firmly to his troops in the dressing room because after the break we got a more eager Charleroi.
After barely 5 minutes, substitute Hosseinzadeh nodded a corner kick into goal. The lead was actually a fact.
In a match with two faces, Cercle managed little after that goal. Charleroi collapsed and lurked on the counter.
In the end, both teams had a few more chances, but no more goals were scored. Final score: 2-1.
Thibo Somers (Cercle Brugge): “There was more to it today. We had the match under control and that undeserved equalizer is just not allowed just before half-time. We couldn’t win after the World Cup break and before that it all went well. Hopefully we can get back to it soon kick off with a win.”
Ken Nkuba (Charleroi): “This victory is good, but next week a new appointment is already waiting in Ghent. We showed a lot of motivation in the second half and then we also showed that we were the better team.”
Miron Muslic (trainer Cercle Brugge): “We played very well in the first half and could have scored several times. That goal against came out of nowhere. We have to continue our level into the second half because Charleroi was better after the break and even deserved to win.” w
Felice Mazzu (trainer Charleroi): “This 6 out of 6 is good and hopefully it will start something. The first half was very difficult, but in the second half I saw a good mentality and positive things.”
