Charleroi: an SME Carolo reinvents cybersecurity insurance for craftsmen

In its 2023 activity report, the Center for Cybersecurity Belgium (CCB) highlights the increase in the number of ransomware attacks and the frequency of incidents. More than 1.2 million unique URLs were identified as malicious, an increase of 92% compared to 2022. And nearly 290,000 unique domains were categorized as potentially dangerous (+262%).

If the prevention of cyber threats remains the best protection, the Alpha Conseils group, which currently has seven locations in Wallonia, has taken the initiative of associating two insurance companies in the development of an innovative policy. According to Olivier Genard-Filée, “it combines civil liability, risk coverage and legal defense (damage to data and programs, attack on the protection of personal data, attempted cyber-extortion, loss of turnover linked to the sale online and e-reputation).”

In addition, two services have been set up to confront what appears to be one of the greatest threats of the 21st century: an evaluation and audit system which makes it possible to meet the needs of each activity as closely as possible, and 24-hour disaster assistance, or prevention assistance during office hours.

An information report from the French Senate submitted to the presidency in 2021 highlights the vulnerability of SMEs: against a backdrop of digitalization of the economy and the development of teleworking, 43% of them have in fact recorded a cybersecurity incident in 2020. The protection of their data therefore constitutes a major element of governance, especially since the employee often serves as a Trojan horse for malicious intrusions. “Four out of ten companies do not carry out regular backups, one in four does not even have any antivirus”according to Olivier Genard-Filée.
