“Charging the Apple Pencil: Tips and tricks for all compatible iPad models”

Almost seven years ago, the first edition of the Apple Pencil was launched, as an accessory for the iPad Pro, which was launched at the same time. Later came a new 2nd generation edition, which can be charged wirelessly/magnetically along the side of compatible iPad models, among other things.

The two editions still live side by side and are sold in many shops around. Depending on which iPad you have, you must choose the right Pencil.

If you have a regular iPad of relatively recent date, it is therefore the first edition of the Apple Pencil that you can use.

It has a cap on the end that can be removed to reveal a Lightning plug, and many charge it by inserting it into the Lightning connector on the iPad, which is also illustrated on the box:

15 seconds in the port is enough for 30 minutes of use, but if you want to fully charge the battery, it must be left for longer – up to half an hour.

Many, both reviewers and users, think it was a bad solution when the Apple Pencil was launched, because there will be a certain risk of breaking it in the charging port.

But if you inspect the contents of the box extra closely (see video above), you will find a small plug hiding in the cardboard construction. It has a “female lightning” at both ends, so you can put the Apple Pencil in one end, a normal Lightning cable in the other and thus charge with a completely normal charging cable. Note, however, that this charging is slower than directly from the iPad.

Should you have thrown away the box with this little plug in, it does not appear that Apple sells it separately, but there are similar products from other manufacturers that can be ordered from Amazon, for example.

And now we’re excited:
