Charging Station Restrictions Are Hyundai Weapons Against Chinese Electric Cars?

Hyundai officially limits the use of its charging stations to Hyundai electric car users only. Therefore, non-Hyundai electric cars, including Chinese electric cars, can no longer enjoy Hyundai charging station facilities. Is this Hyundai Indonesia’s strategy to fight against Chinese electric cars?

For your information, from August 2024, Hyundai has confirmed that other brands will no longer be able to use Hyundai’s charging station facilities. This means that brands that have adopted the Combined Charging System (CCS) 2 charging model, such as BMW, Mercedes-Benz, including Chinese electric cars such as BYD, Chery, Neta, Hyundai charging station facilities to use more.

This policy also gives Hyundai electric cars an advantage over their Chinese competitors. Hyundai Indonesia currently has around 200 charging station units in Indonesia. Hyundai will add 400 additional charging stations by collaborating with local partners.

Chief Operating Officer (COO) of PT Hyundai Motors Indonesia (HMID) Fransiscus Soerjopranoto said that Hyundai implemented a special charging station policy, to prioritize Hyundai electric car users.

“And at the same time, the government, in this case the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, wants us to create an infrastructure specifically for our own brand. That’s the first one. Secondly, Hyundai has over sold 10 thousand electric cars, now 11 thousand. what’s wrong if we now give priority to Hyundai customers,” said Frans in Jakarta (9/8/2024).

Hyundai also has no problem if there are parties who believe that the policy is implemented for the competitive advantage of the Hyundai brand in Indonesia. Hyundai believes that consumers are still the most important thing.

“Just let people think (that way). Because apart from Hyundai that makes charging stations, PLN in general, there are four charging operators that are now working together or in alliance with us, which is one of the organi- systems we have. to create,” said Frans.

“So regardless of the competition and so on, again the customer is the most important thing. We think, we have to give the best service to customers Hyundai car,” said Frans.
