Charging Problem with iPhones 15 in BMW Cars and Toyota Supra: Apple Working on a Fix

iPhones 15 are still plagued by the charging problem in BMW cars
According to new information, the Toyota Supra sports car has the same problem
Apple is already working on a fix, which will come with either iOS 17.1.1 or iOS 17.2

At the beginning of October, a problem appeared with the latest generation of iPhones 15 and BMW cars. If the user placed the new iPhone on the Qi wireless charger in the car, there was a risk that Apple Pay would stop working. Unfortunately, it was not enough to remove the card and re-register it, almost always a service intervention by a technician was necessary. Apple has announced internally that it is aware of the problem and a solution is on the way.

iPhone still not working with BMW

An internal report shared with Apple’s authorized service providers states that “charging an iPhone 15, 15 Plus, 15 Pro or 15 Pro Max using the low number of wireless chargers built into some newer BMW and Toyota Supra models may temporarily disable the device’s NFC functionality”. The server informed about this leaked message MacRumors.

The error has been bothering some users since the end of September or the beginning of October. So far, it has not been possible to root out what actually causes the problem. Users only describe that shortly after placing it on the charger, their iPhone restarts and then it is no longer possible to use the Apple Pay function for contactless payments. Apple specifically advises users not to use the charger in the car to be safe.

It is still not certain which BMW car models the new iPhones actually threaten. It is also possible that cars from other brands within the BMW group, such as Mini or Rolls-Royce, may have a similar problem. Therefore, if you drive a car made by one of these manufacturers, be extra careful and do not charge your mobile phone in the car just in case.

On Wednesday evening, Apple released the iOS 17.1 patch update, which fixes display burn-in issues and a host of other ailments. But it’s already starting to look like Apple will have to come up with a new corrective update soon, whether it’s iOS 17.1.1 or straight iOS 17.2 with a larger portion of news. However, we don’t know anything about the expected release date of this update yet.
