The 16-year-old deceased driver of the moped car on 13 July crashed with a van outside Steinkjeris now charged in the case, says Trøndelag police district in a press release.
The girl’s family has been informed of the press release, Trøndelag police district’s communications director Ane Vangsvik Flo told Dagbladet.
Both the 16-year-old and her 15-year-old friend, who was a passenger, died. The driver of the van has the status of a suspect, but the police state in the press release that the suspicion has now weakened.
The police now believe that the moped crossed into the oncoming lane before the collision, but emphasize that it is too early to conclude on the cause of the accident.
– It is essential to find out why the moped crossed into the oncoming lane. The incident may be due to negligence on the part of the driver, but also obstruction in the roadway or technical faults on the vehicle, says police attorney Åsta Elden in the press release.
The investigation is fully underway, and the police have, among other things, planned several witness interviews as well as digital examinations of the mobile phones of those involved.
