Charges against woman facing deportation demanded to be dropped

Austin, TX.- Austin advocates are demanding that charges be dropped against a young mother who is reportedly facing deportation after she was detained following a car accident.

On Tuesday, September 10, community members and family members gathered outside the Travis County Commissioners Court to protest the decision and support the woman.

The Grassroots Leadership Organization says the young mother is the victim of the accident, but was treated with excessive force. They say delays of more than 24 hours in implementing the Advice on First Appearance (CAFA) program have left her and others without legal support.

The woman is allegedly under pressure to sign documents without interpretation.

She is currently facing an inhumane situation and there is no way for us to communicate with her.“said Letzhaya, the mother of the detained woman.

The young mother’s partner also spoke while holding a sign of the woman’s son that read: “I miss you. I hope you come back soon. I love you.“.
