A court in the western German state of Rhine-Westphalia extradited three teenagers for allegedly planning a deadly terrorist attack, DPA said, citing a statement by a spokesman for the Düsseldorf district court. named by BTA.
The suspects, who were aged 15 and 16 when they were arrested, were held in April over the Easter holidays. The court recently ordered that they remain in custody.
They are suspected of preparing a terrorist attack “according to the goals and ideology of the anti-Islamic State terrorist group”. and attacks on churches, courtrooms, railway stations or police stations have been discussed.
The suspects are believed to have responded to the allegations, but it is unclear whether they denied or accepted them. A date has not yet been set for the start of the trial.
The case against a fourth suspect in the state of Baden-Württemberg was separated and transferred to the public prosecutor’s office in Stuttgart. According to the investigation, one of the prosecutors said that it is believed that that person, a 16-year-old girl, has agreed to commit a crime and that she was preparing “very serious violence that would endanger the state.”
Police first became aware of the 16-year-old girl from Iserlohn, North Rhine-Westphalia, after authorities received information that she planned to leave the country to join Islamic State and fight for the benefit of the terrorist group. She is said to have spoken to one of the Dusseldorf girls about her intentions. During an analysis of her mobile phone, investigators found a second conversation in which plans for an attack were discussed.
Although the reports did not specify a specific day and time or location of the attack, one of the girls was collecting information for police stations in Dortmund, DPA noted.
