Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert told reporters Friday that he suffered a sprained ankle in last weekend’s win over the Carolina Panthers.

Herbert, who had his right foot heavily bandaged, said his sore ankle was “not doing too well” but noted that he had been feeling better with each passing day.

Herbert said he was unsure if he would play for the Chargers (2-0) on Sunday against the host Pittsburgh Steelers (2-0). The team officially placed him on the doubtful list.

Herbert didn’t miss a moment after having his legs trapped under Panthers linebacker DJ Johnson during Los Angeles’ 26-3 win at Carolina last Sunday.

The Pro Bowl quarterback missed Wednesday’s practice and was limited during Thursday’s session.

Herbert, 26, has completed 67.4 percent of his passes for 274 yards with three touchdowns and one interception in two games this season.

Easton Stick would get the nod over Taylor Heinicke if Herbert can’t go Sunday, coach Jim Harbaugh said earlier in the week.

Los Angeles also listed wide receiver Joshua Palmer (calf, elbow), linebacker Bud Dupree (illness), safety Alohi Gilman (knee) and cornerback Ja’Sir Taylor (fibula) as questionable for the Pittsburgh game. Linebacker Junior Colson (hamstring) was ruled out for the game.
