The incident occurred when Sikazwe blew the final whistle in the 85th minute. In fact, the game still has five minutes remaining before normal time runs out.

Sikazwe realized his mistake and resumed the match. Two minutes later, he gave a red card to the Malian player, El Bilal Toure.

Video Assistant Referee (VAR) asked Sikazwe to review the decision, because Toure’s violation was considered not something that endangered the opponent. Sikazwe remains adamant about his decision to expel the 20-year-old striker.

Sikazwe blundered again in the 89th minute to blow the final whistle for the second time. He ended the duel prematurely and without any injury time.

The decision angered the Tunisian stronghold. Coach The Eagles of Carthage (Tunisia’s nickname), Mondher Kebeier, approached Sikazwe in the middle of the field.

Players and staff Tunisia also attempted to ask Sikazwe for information. Security guards immediately surrounded the referee and linesman, before guiding them off the field. Game over for the win Mali 1-0.
