Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – President of Russia Vladimir Putin said his troops would soon deploy the newest intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM), the Sarmat, later this year. Tests of missiles capable of firing nuclear warheads, which are often called “Satan II”, have even been successfully carried out.
He said this in a speech broadcast on the Kremlin television, Tuesday (21/6/2022). AFP. This was also reported in the Russian media, Sputnik.
“The test of a new intercontinental ballistic missile, Sarmat, was successfully carried out,” he stressed.
Putin did not specify exactly which “battle” he was referring to. However, Russia is now at war physically with Ukraine.
Russia has been attacking its neighbor since February 24. Although, the United Nations has recorded at least 4,000 more deaths since the beginning of the fighting until now, there has not been a ceasefire between the two sides.
Meanwhile, on the same occasion Putin also said he was proud of the Russian army in Ukraine. He asked his troops not to worry about Western sanctions and was confident that his country’s strength would be stronger.
“We are proud that during special military operations our fighters (army) acted with courage, professionalism, like real heroes,” Putin said.
“In the face of new threats and risks, we will further develop and strengthen our armed forces … There is no doubt that we will become stronger.”
The Sarman missile itself has the ability to attack long-range targets. At least 46 missiles are available for the Kremlin’s military needs. Sarmat has been tested since April 2022. Sarmat will replace the RS-20 Voevoda missile.
