“To be honest, I’ve never felt such severe pain in my entire life. I looked at my feet and they were twice as big as before. They were all swollen. I looked at the soles of my feet, they were blue and pale white,” Amy explained.

After stepping on a rock lionfish, Amy was immediately rushed from the ship to shore. It took 45 minutes for Amy to be taken to the hotel. At the hotel, Amy was examined by a doctor who immediately advised her to be referred to the nearest hospital.

“I was taken to hospital to be given antivenom and morphine. The same night, my leg was cut off to remove the poison that had entered the body,” Amy added.

Due to stepping on the stonefish, Amy had to pay an additional US$2,000 (equivalent to Rs. 31 million) to pay for the hospital bills.
