The atmosphere was fierce pretty much from the puck drop to the final whistle. A total of 167 suspension minutes were handed out.
The event reached its climax midway into the third and final period. Then Ottawa’s Brady Tkachuk drove at Florida’s goalkeeper Sergej Bobrovsky and a big fight broke out on the ice. Virtually every player participated – something that made the judges at the Canadien Tire Center weary.
When it was all over, it was announced via the arena’s public address system that everyone involved was being shown off the ice.
– All players on the ice get ten minutes of misconduct plus the other penalties they have committed, the referee roared into his microphone.
It paved the way for a chaotic finish where both coaches had sparse booths to work with. When the smoke cleared, Florida could stand as the victor with the numbers 5-0 on the scoreboard.
– This is how it goes in hockey sometimes and that’s why this sport is so damn beautiful, says Florida coach Paul Maurice according to Sportbladet.
