A flight from Fort Lauderdale to Oslo on Friday evening was delayed after an accident on the runway.

Thomas Nilsen says that he has been on a three-week holiday in the USA with family and friends, and was due to return to work on Monday, three days after his planned return home.

It didn’t work out that way.

He says that the passengers experience the whole thing as chaotic.

– We were ready to take off, and suddenly the plane collided with something. After 11 hours of waiting both on the plane and back at the terminal, we were allocated a hotel, says Nilsen, and adds:

– The flow of information at Norse has been completely tragic.

The family was to fly with the airline Norse Atlantic Airways AS.

– Extremely tired

When the families arrived at the hotel, they had only been given one room with two single beds.

– We are eight people, says Nilsen, and adds:

– But we didn’t care about that, we were really tired. Each family of four, two children and two adults, shared a single bed.

When they woke up on Saturday, they received what they perceived as several confusing messages from the airline Norse, but were eventually told that a new flight would leave on Sunday. When they met up on Sunday to take the flight at 8.00 p.m., however, they received yet another counter-notice.

When VG talks to Thomas Nilsen, the time in Fort Lauderdale is 01.15 local time, five hours after the flight should have left.

– We are now waiting for our luggage again. I have spoken to several of the American passengers, and they say they will never go to Norway again. Food for chaos to get to Norway, says Nilsen.

In videos VG has received from several tipsters, long queues are shown with people shouting and hollering in frustration.

– Quite tragic

He says that the traveling party is now traveling back to a new hotel which they have had to book themselves, without help from the airline. This time after nine hours at the airport.

– They should have booked all the passengers home in a completely different way, this is absolutely incredible. Now we four adults, who are actually going to work on Monday, have to reorganize and find alternative solutions, says Nilsen.

– Especially when we have three 12-year-old children and a 13-year-old child with us. It’s all quite tragic.

VG has tried to get in touch with the airline Norse Atlantic Airways AS, but has not yet received a reply.

For the news magazine newsbreak says Philip Allport, Norse’s communications manager, that Norse is doing what it can to minimize further delays.

– The tip of the plane’s wing snapped off after coming into contact with construction work on the runway, says spokesperson for the airport, Arlene Satchell, to newsbreak.

It should be a matter of minor injuries.
