The Chaos Unity Festival promises metal in various facets on Saturday, October 28th, from 4:15 p.m. (admission from 3:30 p.m.) in the Lohrer Stadthalle: Death/Trash Metal, Melodic Death Metal, Black Metal, Funeral Doom.

The second edition will also focus on the local heroes of Final Breath, who were the initiators of the festival.

Like many other local bands in Lohr and the surrounding area, the death/trash metal band Final Breath was formed in the Lohr youth center. After its founding in 1993, it made a name for itself with many appearances. The trade press gave it top marks and the band toured festivals all over Europe. From 2006 onwards, activities were scaled back for various personal reasons, but the group never disbanded.

There was a big surprise in the scene when Final Breath released a new album with “Of Death and Sin” in 2018. The new work was officially presented with a release party in the local town hall. This was a complete success with almost 400 visitors and gave rise to the idea of turning it into an annual festival for metal fans in Lower Franconia.

Premiere 2019

Just one year later the time had come. Final Breath with the current line-up Patrick Gajda (vocals), Jörg Breitenbach (guitar, vocals), Thomas Wissel (bass) and Heiko Krumpholz (drums), supported by Fabian Schwarz (guitar) during live performances, was the headliner of the first Chaos in 2019 -Unity Festival in the town hall, which was also well received. Things could actually have continued like this if the corona pandemic hadn’t intervened. In 2020 and 2021, events with larger gatherings of people were impossible. Last year there was still no planning security, so the band and those responsible at the town hall decided on the second festival in 2023.

The newcomers from Dark Absence from Würzburg will kick things off in the afternoon. According to the organizers, they play melodic death metal and have a good feel for catchy songs and fine melodies in a death metal guise. The musicians from Zerre also come from the Würzburg area, who represent “old school” trash metal and are already known through their involvement in other bands.

At Ascian with musicians from Braunschweig and Würzburg, according to the announcement, “the melange of Funeral Doom with a clear proximity to Death Metal oozes out of the speakers in a dark and viscous manner, only to erupt in a few moments into Black Metal frenzy, for example.” The group Boötes Void, founded in 2019, also comes from the cathedral city with “clinking guitars, frenzy and a good dose of dark atmosphere”.

The trash metal band Bonded from Dortmund has been around since 2018 with some legends of German metal from the previous groups Sodom and Kreator. The music is described as experimental, the lyrics are partly socially critical, but are also about horror and science fiction. The German metal legends also include the group Disbelief from Dieburg, Hesse, founded in 1990 with their death metal. The band is known for Karsten Jäger’s variable singing, which ranges from bestial screams to delicate vocal melodies, and for the emotionality of their music. The crowning conclusion from 10:15 p.m. is the performance of Final Breath.
