Chaos on the Breisgau S-Bahn: Short Trains, No Seats, and Passenger Recklessness

The Breisgau S-Bahn has been making a name for itself again for a few days now, unfortunately not in a positive sense: Because trains are too short, passengers can’t find a seat in the morning. And anyone who gets on the 8 a.m. train from Breisach in Ihringen often has to stand in the aisle. There are also delayed departures from Freiburg again. Travelers also have to accept stops on the open route these days, for example between Wasenweiler and Gottenheim. As if that weren’t annoying enough, passengers also give reason to shake their heads: Anyone who wants to get off the train at the destination station increasingly has to squeeze through a crowd of people waiting on the platform and narrowing the exit instead of opening it up. But the highlight is those who rush into the train as soon as it has arrived – while not all the passengers are outside yet. The impatient push in, even though there is still a line of passengers in the carriage. The word traffic takes on a new meaning here.

When did this recklessness start? In the Corona crisis? With increasing passenger numbers? What is certain is that the train will not leave a second sooner if passengers are walking towards other passengers in the door area and creating a senseless mess. Adult pushers should remember their role model function, because they show the many students on the route how to be considerate and behave on the train and at the station. Or not.
