Chaos reigns in the Ottawa Senators.
First, the NHL announced that the team would be penalized and lose a first-round pick.
Now general manager Pierre Dorion is fired.
The Ottawa Senators are judged to be responsible for the NHL being forced to step in and stop a move that had sent Russian star Yevgenij Dadonov from the Vegas Golden Knights to the Anaheim Ducks last year.
Dadonov had a so-called “no trade list” with ten teams he did not want to be traded to, but Ottawa must have failed to inform about it when they traded Dadonov to Vegas in 2021.
Get rid of first choice
Now you are punished – heavily.
Earlier on Wednesday announced NHL that Ottawa will lose a first-round pick in the 2024, 2025 or 2026 draft.
Which choice they renounce is up to them to decide.
It is only the second time in NHL history that a team has been penalized with a lost first-round pick.
Fires his GM
Now the club’s top brass is acting by firing general manager Pierre Dorion.
This is stated by several NHL insiders in unison.
Dorion has been the Ottawa Senators GM since the spring of 2016.
The news is expected to be announced at a press conference this evening and Peter Chiarelli – former GM of the Edmonton Oilers – is being singled out as a likely replacement.
