The Regional Crisis Headquarters explained that they had not received a signal from the Ukrainians
Chaos in Ruse with 150 refugees who arrived in the city and were greeted only by volunteers. It turned out that the institutions did not know about the arriving Ukrainians.
Katya and her family are from Azerbaijan, but have been living in the Ukrainian city of Kherson for years. Six women and five children traveled for more than a week.
“We have been on the street for eight days with a 6-month-old baby. We have nothing to eat, “the woman said.
The family decided to return to their hometown of Baku. Their route passed through Romania, Bulgaria and Turkey. They say they were welcomed everywhere, but not here.
The volunteers in Ruse learned from their colleagues in Romania that buses with many refugees were arriving. They set up an organization to meet them at the train station. They helped those who want to continue their journey, and provided shelter for the large family.
“They came completely unprepared, they didn’t know where they were and the only thing we could give them was some tea, some biscuits and a smile,” said volunteer Stamen Belchev.
The Regional Crisis Staff explained that they had not received a signal for arriving refugees. The passengers on the buses mentioned by the volunteers had not declared such a status at the border crossing.
