This weekend, in New York, it is the seductive invitation formulated by the streamer Kai Cenat (one of the most followed in the world on the Twitch platform) and his colleague, Fanum. As The Verge reports, this Friday, August 4 at 4 p.m., videographers invited their community to Union Square for a – very – special giveaway: several next-gen machines and a “huge” stack of $100 gift cards, notes the American media. Except that by 3 p.m., the park was already filled to the brim… In a CBS video, we can see hundreds of people gathered, including several who allegedly threw objects. Dozens of police were on hand to manage the crowd.

In a press conference, the New York police announced 65 arrests (including 30 minors) and several injuries, whether on the side of civilians or law enforcement… As far as Kai Cenat is concerned, the result is not happier! NYPD says streamer will be charged with two counts, incitement to riot and unlawful assembly. The 21-year-old, who was released from police custody on Saturday morning August 5, is expected to appear in court on August 18.
For now, the only public statement from those involved comes to us from Instagram, from Kai Cenat’s AMP (“Any Means Possible”) group: “Yesterday, AMP members hoped to create a positive experience for fans and thank them for their support”, can we read… “We have organized comparable events in the past, but we have never experienced something of this magnitude (…) We recognize that our audience is growing, and that with with that comes greater responsibility. We apologize to everyone and we are cooperating fully with the authorities.” It remains to be seen whether Cenat will be subject to legal sanctions. To be continued.
