According to the Interior Ministry, 133,000 people have taken to the streets across the country to protest, of whom about 46,000 are in Paris. The organizers themselves speak of half a million demonstrators, 200,000 of whom are said to be in the capital.

Proponents say agents and their families need to be protected from harassment and threats both online and in person when off duty. But according to protesters, the law is a threat to freedom of the press.

The protests intensified after images surfaced of the beatings of a black man by officers for not wearing a face mask.
Injured
It is not yet known how many people were injured among the protesters. One of the injured is Ameer Alhalbi, a prize-winning 24-year-old warphotographer from Syria. He photographed the protests and would have clearly identified himself as a journalist.
