Among other things, the Paris police used tear gas to disperse the crowds in the riot that broke out in connection with the Champions League final at the Stade de France on Saturday night.
According to the newspaper The Parisian 68 people were detained by the police, 39 of whom were detained. The newspaper further writes that 174 football supporters were slightly injured.
Real Madrid won the Champions League final against Liverpool 1-0. But the match started almost 40 minutes late due to unrest outside the arena.
Safety fence overturned several places at the stadium when supporters pressed to get to the security checks.
According to French Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin and Uefa, the chaos was caused by people who had invalid tickets.
– There were huge queues, I have never seen that when I have come to the Stade de France for more than twenty years, says a visitor to Le Parisien.
Several people also climbed over the fence around the stadium and rushed towards the entrance. The organizers are criticized for how the unrest was handled and the events not only leave a bitter aftertaste but also raise concerns ahead of the Rugby World Cup in France next year and not least the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris when the Stade de France is the main arena.
