Chaos and Debauchery at the Phoenix Open: Alcohol Sales Halted, Arrests Made, and Fights Break Out
The Phoenix Open, known for its rowdy atmosphere, took a turn for the worse on Saturday as chaos and debauchery ensued at TPC Scottsdale in Arizona. With alcohol flowing freely, the event had to halt alcohol sales due to the unruly behavior of the boozy golf fans. Reports of fights breaking out and several arrests being made only added to the mayhem.
The tournament, already dubbed the People’s Open, has always been notorious for its raucous scenes. However, the debauchery that overshadowed the golf this year was on a whole new level. The rowdy behavior was expected, but it escalated beyond anyone’s imagination.
While Canadian Nick Taylor (-13) and Sahith Theegala (-12) were leading the chase for the $8,800,000 (£7m) prize, social media platforms were flooded with viral videos capturing the unruly crowd. One player, Byeong Hun An, took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to express his dismay, stating, “S***shows. Totally out of control on every hole.”
In one video clip that went viral, two golf fans were seen grappling with each other away from the course, while others attempted to intervene. The chaotic scenes continued throughout TPC Scottsdale, with numerous fans creating mudslides by flinging themselves down embankments, all while being showered with booze. One particular gentleman gained widespread attention across social media for his shirtless slide.
Amidst the chaos, a potential world record was broken as a beer snake stretched as far as the eye could see. This more sedate scene provided some entertainment amidst the wild antics of the crowd.
However, the unruly behavior reached such an extreme that entries to the course had to be briefly paused due to overcrowding. One reporter even claimed that 30 people had blacked out at the event, leading to a temporary halt in alcohol sales. This, in turn, sparked chants of “We want beer” at some holes until the ban was lifted.
Unfortunately, the debauchery did not end there. In another unsavory video that will not be posted here, a man was seen urinating while seated on a stall surrounded by other spectators. Such behavior only added to the already chaotic atmosphere.
As the final round approaches, the madness is expected to escalate further. The battle for victory on the course continues, and any delays could potentially clash with the Super Bowl in Las Vegas, creating an even more frenzied atmosphere.
The Phoenix Open has always been known for its rowdy scenes and wild antics, but this year’s event took it to a whole new level.
