Texas football plays Oklahoma Sooners in annual Red River Rivalry game

As Texas prepares to meet Oklahoma in Dallas, the American-Statesman discusses the betting line and if this is college football’s best rivalry.

The Texas football team is back from its break and ready for the Red River Rivalry game against Oklahoma in Dallas.

It’s the first time since 1984 that Texas comes into the game ranked as the No. 1 team in the country. After last weekend, in which several top 10 teams were defeated, the Longhorns They will have the opportunity to beat their rival and consolidate themselves as the favorites in the Southeastern Conference (SEC).

Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers is back in practice and is likely to start against Oklahoma. On Monday, coach Steve Sarkisian said Ewers would play if necessary and confirmed later in the week who would be the starter. Oklahoma is ranked 16th in the latest US LBM coaches poll and will start rookie quarterback Michael Hawkins Jr.

After Longhorns running back Jaydon Blue fumbled twice in their win over Mississippi State, the starting position appears to be in doubt. Quintrevion Wisner performed well after Blue was benched, and Sarkisian said both would play against the Sooners.

Texas is still recovering from the injuries it suffered in last year’s 34-30 loss in the Cotton Bowl. In the historical series, Texas leads with 63 wins, 51 losses and five ties.
