Chania murder: Morocco – Tunisia on the side of Palestine – 2024-08-01 12:05:47

Hundreds of people took part in demonstrations in Morocco and Tunisia on Wednesday night in solidarity with the Palestinian people and to denounce the death of Hamas leader Ismail Haniya in a strike in Tehran attributed to the Israel.

In front of the parliament, in the center of the Moroccan capital, more than a thousand people demonstrated waving Palestinian flags and shouting slogans such as “Ismail Haniya leaves in peace, the changing of the guard is here”, “God have mercy on the martyrs” or “the crime was committed with American synergy”.

The secretary of her political office Hamas, who was in Iran to attend the swearing-in ceremony of its new president, was killed early yesterday in a blow attributed to Israel by his movement and Tehran, which vowed to avenge his death, intensifying concerns that a conflagration was imminent in the region, while through war in the Gaza Strip.

Around 500 protesters gathered in Tunis, waving Palestinian flags, Lebanese flags Hezbollah and portraits of the Hamas leader.

In the center of the Tunisian capital, protesters held placards with slogans such as “the people want normalization outlawed” — some Arab countries, including Morocco, have recognized Israel and now have diplomatic relations with it.

A call to the Arab people

Tageb Bouaisha, an activist, called on the “Arab peoples and the liberation movements to realize what happened” and to intensify the “resistance”, warning that otherwise they would “find themselves behind the developments”.

Tunisia, which hosted Yasser Arafat’s Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) from 1982 to 1994, strongly supports the Palestinian cause.

Since the outbreak of war in the Gaza Strip on October 7, there have been large demonstrations in Morocco with a central demand to cancel the normalization of relations with Israel, while until then opposition to the process was rather limited.

The kingdom has officially called for an “immediate, total and lasting end to Israel’s war in Gaza,” without ever questioning the normalization of relations.
