Changes to the Social Security Code liquidated the “French unemployment” in the second reading – 2024-08-02 12:08:50

Cash unemployment compensation for persons insured only in Bulgaria and others who were insured in EU countries will now be calculated in the same way. This is what the deputies decided during the second reading of changes in The Social Security Code (CSR).

The goal is to reduce abuse and ensure fairness in the granting of unemployment benefits.

The GERB-SDS coalition, which designed the amendments to the code, proposes that when determining the compensation, the last 24 months of employment, including that from Bulgaria, and not just the period of work abroad, should be taken into account.

The changes to the Social Security Code were in fact eagerly awaited by employers who are experiencing serious difficulties in hiring workers. The reason for this is that the workers preferred to go to France for a short time, and then between 4 and 12 months (according to the accumulated insurance experience) to use benefits of a high amount. According to deputies, in this way NOI was annually drained of more than 100 million BGN due to the so-called “French unemployment„.

This week MEP from DPS Ilhan Kyuchuk asked from EC interpretation whether the changes prepared in our country to the social security code do not contradict the European regulation that determines the benefits.
