České Budějovice is opening a new post of sports manager, which is Jiří Novotný. The engine informed about the transition to the new system through a press release.
“We considered various names, but after long negotiations, the club’s board of directors liked the vision that Jirka Novotný presented to us the most,” describes general manager Stanislav Bednařík.
The sports manager will therefore be responsible for the sports section. His powers include the selection of the implementation team and the composition of the player squad.
“Jirka is familiar with the club’s environment, has an overview of the current staff and, as a former player agent, knows the player market at home and abroad,” Bednařík calculates for the club’s website.

“We believe that it will fulfill the long-term concept of how we want Motor to work in the sports sector,” adds the GM from České Budějovice.
One of Novotný’s primary tasks will be to compile the roster for the upcoming season. It only depends on him whether he reaches for changes regarding some players or coaches.
“Jirka has of course indicated to us his next steps, and we have no reason not to believe that they could lead to success,” Bednařík points out.
The former excellent striker can choose his collaborators in the sports section. Motor sees the stability of the club’s long-term sports management concept as a major advantage of the new model.
“It was essential for us to find a strong personality for this function who would be able to take full responsibility for the sports section, which we have not always succeeded in doing in the past,” admits Bednařík.

“We believe that this will put an end to the discussions about who is responsible for the sporting functioning of the club. But a sports manager will understandably have a financial framework within which it is necessary to operate,” he adds.
In addition, Motor’s general manager revealed that, thanks to a new general partner and other promising negotiations, the club is preparing to increase the budget for next year.

The owner of the gold medal from the World Cup in 2010 helped coach David Čermák on the substitution this year. He ended his active career in the summer of 2021, but returned to Motor a few months later and played 44 matches in the rest of the season.
