Changes in Car Models: Toyota Sienta, Daihatsu Ayla, Toyota Agya, Honda Brio RS, Toyota Vellfire, Hyundai Kona Electric in Indonesia

Jakarta

Throughout 2023, we will witness the birth of new cars in Indonesia. But this year also marks the end of several products.

Some cars are still for sale but must be pre-ordered, even though the model has disappeared from the official website. Meanwhile, others were less popular so production was not continued.

Toyota Sienta

The Toyota Sienta has no longer been listed since early 2023 on the official Toyota Astra Motor (TAM) website. Even so, Toyota is still selling with spot order status.

Quoted from wholesale sales data released by the Association of Indonesian Automotive Industries, Sienta has one model remaining, namely the V Welcab. Even then, the distribution was only 1 unit and the last one was carried out in January 2023.

Sienta’s sales appear to be declining from year to year. According to detikOto records, in 2016 Sienta distribution reached 17,931 units. Then in 2017 the distribution was around 14,000 units. Continuing in 2018, distribution fell again to 5,113 units.

Continuing in 2019, distribution was only 1,030 units. It fell again a year later, to 393 units. Then in 2021, we saw an increase in line with the PPnBM incentives that Sienta received. Thus, the distribution increased to 841 units.

In 2022 it will be even worse, distribution will only reach 99 units. Furthermore, in the first five months of 2023, Sienta will only be distributed 1 unit. The Sienta itself hasn’t changed much since it launched seven years ago. Meanwhile, in Japan, Toyota has presented the Sienta with an all-new appearance.

In Japan, the latest Toyota Sienta offers a choice of petrol and hybrid engines. For the hybrid type, the Sienta is equipped with a 1.5L M15A-FXE engine and a more efficient hybrid system with fuel consumption of 28.8 km/liter. In the hybrid type, Toyota also offers an E-Four drive version.

Daihatsu Ayla 1.0 D and D+ variants

The Daihatsu Ayla without AC and audio features as the cheapest car variant in Indonesia is apparently no longer sold. PT Astra Daihatsu Motor (ADM) does not display the specifications of the cheapest car on the second generation Ayla.

Currently the Daihatsu Ayla is sold in three variants, namely M, So the M variant is equipped with audio and AC features.

Toyota Agya 1.0

Since February 2023, the second generation Toyota Agya will be available with only one engine choice, namely 1,200 cc, without a 1,000 cc engine. This is different from the previous generation Agya which provided a 1,000 cc engine option.

Honda Brio RS Urbanite

The Honda Brio RS Urbanite Edition was officially euthanized following the arrival of the New Honda Brio Satya and RS versions 2023. This has been the case since May 5 2023 with the arrival of the New Brio Satya and New Brio RS with slight changes to the fascia. For the RS variant, the interior gets additional new features, such as a new cluster panel and also an engine start stop button, with a keyless remote.

Toyota Vellfire

Toyota Velffire is absent on the official PT Toyota Astra Motor website. Searched by detikOto, Toyota’s list of MPV vehicles now remains with the Alphard, Kijang Innova Zenix, Voxy, Avanza, Veloz and Calya. Meanwhile, Vellfire, which previously coexisted with Alphard, is no longer registered.

When confirmed, PT Toyota Astra Motor Marketing Director Anton Jimmi Suwandy did not answer with certainty about the fate of the Vellfire. Anton only said that his party was still focused on the newest Alphard.

“We are still focusing on the All New Alphard first. Vellfire is still under study for the future,” said Anton when contacted, Thursday (21/12/2023).

Hyundai Kona Electric

Hyundai Kona Electric is no longer available on the official Hyundai Indonesia website. Usually electric cars are in the EV (electric vehicles) range with the Hyundai Ioniq 5.

Hyundai Kona is still imported from South Korea. According to import data from the Association of Indonesian Automotive Industries (Gaikindo), sport utility vehicles (SUVs) have not been imported since early 2023. The Kona Electric is increasingly quiet compared to last year’s data, only 20 units of the Hyundai Kona Electric were imported into Indonesia.
