The state-owned railway carrier is preparing new changes. An increase in ticket prices is coming. This was confirmed by the team of the head of the Board of Directors of the company Yulia Varadinova, writes the Telegraph.
Currently, BDZ experts are making a detailed analysis of the company’s pricing policy, which will be presented to the management and ultimately to the Minister of Transport and Communications, Georgi Gvozdeikov, who has the final say on the change in the prices of vehicle documents.
Among the reasons for the increase in prices are the increase in the minimum wage, fuel prices, as well as general accumulated inflation. The prices of tickets and cards on the BDZ have not been touched since 2018, when they were last indexed.
However, according to sources from the ministry, the increase will not affect all trains, but only those on which a tangible improvement in either speed or travel comfort is achieved. The aim is to increase prices only where passengers have felt a real improvement in the quality of the service.
At the moment, the carrier’s analysis indicates that a real indexation of prices to inflation since 2018 (over 20%) is unrealistic from a political point of view. In reality, the increase can reach 10% in the improved directions.
