change of perspective. Sorbs in Brandenburg and Germans in Poland

Minorities reflect the linguistic and cultural diversity of Europe. The protection of their rights is sanctioned by the constitutions of the European states concerned and by international treaties. The long-term promotion of minorities, on the one hand, and the opportunities for social participation of members of minorities, on the other, are seen as a yardstick for the degree of cultural diversity in a society. In view of the German minority in Poland and the Sorbian minority in Brandenburg, we will ask ourselves how appropriate the social participation of minorities in Germany, Poland and Europe can appear and how successful it can be. We question the self-image and image of both groups against the backdrop of their eventful history and the challenges of the present between the pressure to conform and self-determination.
