23-year-old Endre Gjendem was last seen at 02:15 on Saturday night at the Madam Reiersen nightclub in Arendal.
It was when the 23-year-old did not show up for an appointment on Saturday that concerns were reported. Late on Saturday evening, the police received a formal missing person report, the police write in a press release.
The police have since searched the surrounding area. The road from the nightclub to the missing person’s home was also examined. A rescue boat and a police boat have searched the area.
On Sunday afternoon, the police informed the public that the 23-year-old was missing and a major search operation was launched at 17:25 Sunday, writes Agderposten.
Go diving
Operations manager Øyvind Hægeland at the Agder police district tells Dagbladet that in a status meeting on Monday morning they have decided that the fire service will deploy divers.
– Now we have received assistance from the fire service to take a dive on the outside of Tyholmen, he says.
Tyholmen is a peninsula from the center of Arendal. The pub where the 23-year-old was last seen is located right there.
The police inform Dagbladet that there is no indication that the 23-year-old wanted to disappear. There are also no indications that anything criminal has occurred.
– We have no information that pulls in any direction. There is no reason to believe that anything criminal has happened, nor is there anything to suggest that he wanted to disappear. So for now it is completely open what could have happened, says operations manager Hægeland to Dagbladet.
– We keep all hypotheses open, he adds.
The fire brigade in Arendal had planned a diving exercise on Monday, and in consultation with the police they are moving the exercise to Tyholmen.
– Furthermore, we work with information gathering, intelligence and electronic traces to form a picture of what may have happened. This is to form a basis for us to look elsewhere, says Hægeland.
Considering new searches
On Sunday, a thorough search was carried out in the center of Arendal and it covers the most relevant areas, the police say.
– In parallel with the investigation and intelligence being carried out, we have contacted the search manager and task manager who will reassess the searches and possibly carry out new searches in the area, says Hægeland.
More than 50 people took part in the search for the missing 23-year-old on Sunday evening. Both the police, the Red Cross, Norwegian People’s Aid, Norwegian rescue dogs, rescue boat Inge Steensland and private individuals participated, according to Agderposten, in the search operation.
So far, the search has been unsuccessful, the police say.
The police encourage people to look in backyards and places that are otherwise not so visible.
Endre Müller Gjendem is approximately 180 centimeters tall and was wearing a red and white jumper and dark trousers when he disappeared.
The police are asking for information if anyone may have seen the missing person after he left Madam Reiersen or if they have had contact with the missing person.
Contact the police on telephone number 02800 if you have information.
