Chang Weiping 常玮平 has campaigned against discrimination against HIV-infected people and sexual minorities. The government reacted with a ban on work, torture – and a mock trial behind closed doors. In his last video shortly before his arrest, Chang already seemed to have a glimpse of his fate. “Should I lose my freedom again, I would first like to make it clear that I will neither commit suicide nor harm myself physically,” says the Chinese in a sober tone into his smartphone camera. Less than a week later, on October 22, 2020, Chang was taken away by the security police.
