To present its spring-summer 2024 ready-to-wear, the rue Cambon house chose as a backdrop a 360-degree view from one of the most remarkable modernist buildings in France: the Villa Noailles. “This collection is an ode to freedom and movement. It tells a story that takes its source in the gardens of Villa Noailles”, explains the artistic director, Virginie Viard. It must be said that Chanel maintains close links with the former winter residence of Charles and Marie-Laure de Noailles, this couple of patrons who left their mark on the arts between 1920 and 1970. Because Gabrielle Chanel, close to the couple, dressed Marie-Laure, that the house is today the main patron of the villa which has become an art center and that Karl Lagerfeld had an affection for the architecture of the building.
The name of Noailles could have remained in the art history books. However, a century after its conception, their house on the hill of Hyères has become one of the centers of attraction for contemporary creation.
